Joseph F Kusick, Sr, age 92, passed away on November 3, 2018, from heart complications after a long illness. Born in Missouri to Henry and Anna Kusick, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth, and is survived by sons Joe, Jr. and John (Charlot) and daughters Jeanne (Aaron) Chilcott and Julie (Randy) Kusick as well as five grandchildren: Cassidy, Aviana, Tressa, Joel, Matthew and Revan. At age 18, Joe decided to leave Kansas City and travel the world and joined the merchant marines. He served as a Radio Electronics Officer during World War II on merchant vessels and later the Korean War with the US Navyand was a seaman and officer for over 40 years before retirement. During his travels he met his wife and they settled first in San Francisco and then Novato to raise their family. Joe instilled the values of hard work and independence into his children as well as his pride in being a US citizen. Joe also had a love of the outdoorsespecially trout fishing, hiking and camping, and took his family on trips whenever he could. A Rosary for Joseph will be held Thursday November 15, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Valley Memorial Park Chapel, 650 Bugeia Ln, Novato. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday November 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Novato.
